This lunchtime Ask the Copywriter session, with Ettie Bailey-King, will be focusing on accessible copywriting: how to write for neurodivergent readers (including ADHD, dyslexic, autistic, OCD folks), disabled, tired and distracted people.
Some topics we can cover:
How we read How sighted people read words, sentences and pages, and how to design your copy to be more readable, skimmable, memorable and actionable.
Cognitive load Who else feels overwhelmed by all the information they have to absorb in a single day, hour or minute? How to make our content easier to read, understand and remember.
What neurodivergence is We’ll explore some specific forms of neurodivergence like ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, autism and generalised anxiety, how they affect our focus, memory and verbal processing, and how you can craft content that’s neurodivergent-friendly.
How we think How to use stories and concrete images that ‘plug in’ to the brain better than more abstract language.
Ettie is an inclusive and accessible copywriter and trainer. On the inclusive language side, Ettie helps people understand and talk accurately about age, disability, gender, race, sexual orientation and lots more. On the accessibility side, she helps people understand the science of how we read and listen, so you can write copy that works better for people who are disabled, neurodivergent, tired or distracted.
